Homemade Christmas gift ideas
Christmas is a time when many people are looking for gifts to give to others. Unfortunately, with so many people trying to find the perfect gift, retail stores are more crowded than any other time of the year.
To avoid being trapped in these massive shopping crowds looking for gifts, try coming up with your own personal gift ideas. Not only will you avoid having to deal with the crowds at the stores, but you’ll be giving unique gifts that will stand out in their originality.
- Enjoy baking? Bake a batch of your favorite cookies and put them in a nice tin or homemade cardboard box. Find a template for a box online, print it out, and make a nice box that can be decorated with special festive paper. Better yet, let your gift recipient have their own baking fun by giving some homemade cookie dough or gingerbread dough (may require refrigeration!). Affix baking instructions (temperature, baking time) as well as a cookie cutter, and your gift is magically transformed into a holiday baking experience.
- Knit or crochet? Make something a special clothing gift for a loved one. Whether it be a sweater or a simple scarf or cap, a warm item of clothing made by a loved one is sure to be appreciated during the coldest weather of January or February. Research popular colors and styles online as well as with the recipient to avoid putting all that hard work and effort into a project that nobody will wear. Another idea: Old stuffed animals are given new lives by creating for them a shirts or caps when they previously did not wear them.
- Home crafts: Using items found around the home, make useful items such as a picture holder (wire coiled up and affixed to a base), a flowerpot (an existing pot with new decorations using paint or covered with fabric) or an art piece (using found objects such as bottlecaps, popsicle sticks, or matchboxes).
Making the most of the items in your house will give you a fun project to do and at the same time makes for unique gift ideas.
